Every spring our island becomes a garden of earthly delights: buds and birdsong, green fragrances, crystal air, strawberries. Across the sound, Mount Rainier looks renewed as well, its white cone gleaming between azure sky and Mediterranean blue water. In all seasons, this massive live volcano provides a visual focus for our region, much as Mount Vesuvius does for the Bay of Naples. It is these owners that inspired this piece.
